You Asked – Keeping Canvas Boards From Curling Up?

February 11, 2010 by Ralph S 3 Comments

Today’s question comes from Cindy and she asks:

“How do you keep canvas boards from curling up ? I have several that I had in storage & recently took them out & some of them have curled up.”

Do you have any information that might help Cindy?

Please leave your response in the comment box below.  Thanks!

Cindy….Canvas boards are actually just cardboard with some canvas stuck on it so any humidity will permeate the paper and warp it. Always store them laying flat and I always place them between flat boards with some weight on top so they can’t curl up when they want to.

Cindy, I heard if you paint the back of the canvas board (i.e. paint a large X) it reduces curling. There are also better quality boards which don`t curl. Fredrix makes an archival canvas panel with a hardboard core and they don`t warp at all.
