You Asked – How to Safely Ship a Painting

June 29, 2012 by Ralph S 1 Comment

Todays question come from Pauline.

She asks:

“I have sold a painting – acrylic on canvas to someone in Canada. It’s 24 by 16″ approx, a deep canvas. Any ideas on how to ship it safely would be appreciated. Has anyone used a particular shipping / postal service they could recommend?”

Do you have any information that may help Pauline?   Please leave your response in the comments box below.  Thanks!

    Hi Pauline,
I sent a painting from Australia to the U.S., it was a watercolour with the mount which needed to be kept flat. I cut some thick, stiff cardboard and sandwiched the painting between them then wrapped them in brown wrapping paper. On the outside I wrote ‘FRAGILE DO NOT BEND’ top and bottom both sides. The painting arrived without any problems and the buyer was very happy. You can put some tissue paper and bubble wrap over the painting to protect the paint, hope this helps.
