How to Draw Various Face Expressions – Step by Step
In the video, Robert shares techniques for drawing facial expressions. He emphasizes the importance of practicing these skills, especially for comic artists. Marzullo demonstrates drawing a surprised expression, focusing on simplicity and shape-based methods. He advises against starting with a complete head shape when drawing open-mouth expressions, as it can limit the facial space. Instead, he suggests constructing the face around the expression. The video is a practical guide for artists to enhance their character expression skills.
How to Draw – Comics Style – Female Faces – Narrated
In this video, Robert offers insights into drawing female faces in comic style. He begins with warm-ups, drawing eyes, and emphasizing the importance of their shape and alignment. Marzullo demonstrates techniques for achieving symmetry in facial features using digital tools, highlighting how flipping the image can reveal inconsistencies. He discusses proportions, particularly the placement of eyes, nose, and mouth in relation to each other.
For example, the width of the nose often determines the chin’s roundness. Marzullo also touches on the subtleties of drawing lips, mentioning that the upper lip is thinner than the lower one and how to represent this in a comic style. He advises drawing cheekbones and jawlines, suggesting a rounded jaw for a feminine look. The video concludes with Marzullo sketching hair, describing it as free-flowing ribbons around the head, and emphasizing the importance of layers and depth for a realistic appearance. He encourages viewers to experiment with their drawings while maintaining foundational proportions and symmetry.
