Watch artist Alisa Burke demonstrate an interesting technique: using baby oil with crayons in a drawing. You can view more of Alisa’s videos on her youtube channel here.

I remember using baby oil in grade school (I’m 69) and we would place our coloring page (dried) on the window and it looked like stain glass. Of course, the crayons were deeper color than I find today. I like crayola crayons and I am sure there are more expensive crayons to use that would bring the colors to life. I am currently a prekindergarten teacher and am going to use it on a coloring page (egg designed) and printed off a computer. I am excited to use this technique and hope my fours and fives will not over due the oil. They have been using watercolor blocks (circular and individual colors) at the easel. This is so much fun at discovering the mixing of colors. Of course, the container with water is the highlight because the water changes colors! I haven’t used chalk to color and add baby oil. I think that would be fun. We do add water to chalk when drawing on the sidewalk. They have placed water on the tip of the chalk and the color is stronger. Thanks for video. wrightmarjorie523@gmail.com
