I confess. When I first learned about acrylic pour painting, my immediate thought was that it wasn’t really art. I watched countless videos of artists pour puddles of paint on the canvas and thought it was cheating and quite silly to be honest. I felt is was all random and no real planning or creativity was involved. But then I tried it myself and believe me, it is a lot more difficult then these artist make it appear on video. So now I am hooked and just love all the beautiful designs people are coming up with using all the various acrylic pour painting techniques and mediums. One such technique is known as the swipe technique and that is what this post will cover. Below are a variety of video demonstrations that I hand picked from youtube. Enjoy!
Spring Garden Swipe
A white swipe over pastel colours on a 30cm x 60cm (12″ x 24″) canvas using Floetrol as the pouring medium. Subscribe to the artist’s youtube channel here.
Acrylic Paint Pouring SWIPE
Acrylic Paint Pouring Swipe with PERFECT Cells! YAY! This pre-mixed pouring paint by Artist Loft is not cheap, but the results are quite consistent! Subscribe to this artist’s youtube channel here.
MULTICOLOR Swipe with Tons of Cells and NO SILICONE.
Playing with Acrylic Pour Swipe Technique today, and I got TONS of gorgeous Cells without any Additives at all! (no silicone, no soap, etc). To be completely honest with you, I was planning to go for Chameleon Cells Effect after (create controlled cells over the swipe), however, the pour has exploded and there was no need for that – unexpected twist! All the paint is mixed with Floetrol and water, and the Floetrol is the one to “blame” for this crazy cell’s action. I think this acrylic pouring technique is great for beginners.
